The group phase of the 2nd edition of the Judo Pro League is drawing to a close, with some eagerly-awaited encounters and decisive stakes. On Tuesday, six teams met for the final day of the group phase.
In Pool A, US Orléans Judo Loiret travelled to the Paris region to take on SGS Judo. Although the match had no impact on the standings, with Orléans already eliminated and SGS Judo assured of first place, the evening's two opponents were determined to end the group phase on a high note. It was the visitors who had the last word in a clash that lived up to all its promise, winning 5-4.
For their part, the Dojo Nantais hosted the Dojo Béglais in pool B. With both teams neck-and-neck, the stakes were high: second place, synonymous with qualification for the quarter-finals. In a game that remained tight until the eighth match (2-1), the home side finally broke away, winning their last two matches to finish 4-1. This victory enables the Nantes-based team to continue their run in the competition.
In Pool C, ES Blanc Mesnil hosted Nice Judo Métropole in a match where the winner became group leader. Beaten in the first leg, the team from the Paris region responded to their evening opponents with a 5-2 win in front of their home crowd.
To round off the group phase, two matches were scheduled for Wednesday: Judo des Hauts-de-France took on Normandie Judo in Verquin, while OM Judo travelled to Auxerre in the hope of securing their ticket for the rest of the competition. In Northern France, the Normans, assured of second place in Pool A, got the better of the Nordic side with a comfortable 7-1 victory. In Auxerre, the hosts managed to turn the match around after trailing 2-1, winning 5-3. The win puts the team from Auxerre in second place in Pool D and ensures their place in the quarter-finals.
